Blue Skye

1975 Newport 28

Blue Skye is a 1975 Newport 28. The Newport 28 started production in 1974, a C&C design that had a Mark II version introduced midway through it's approx 1000 boat total run. With a 7000 lb displacement, and over 3000 lbs of ballast, it was considered slightly tender but still very composed. A step above the budget production boats of it's era and even newer, it was more of a mid-range boat. There were obvious compromises made in construction, but in general was well crafted, and still has a striking appearance by today's standard.

At the time of purchase, her original Atomic 4 gasoline engine had been removed by a prior owner, and a kicker bracket mounted to the transom for an outboard. She had the port galley configuration, however the structure for that galley has been modified. She's missing cushions, the sheaves in the mast head had gone bad and a workaround was just to have a previous owner add blocks to the masthead instead. She has a hank-on headsail, and tiller steering.

For more information on the Newport 28 and other boats in the lineup, a great resource is CapitalYachts.info and there are some great reviews in there as well.
